If you’re reading this from Surrey, Brampton, Southall, Melbourne, or anywhere else with a big Punjabi community, you probably know this story already — because it’s likely your own.
Mom or Dad has been wincing getting up from the sofa for two years. They didn’t want to “make a fuss” or spend your money on a flight just for a doctor’s visit. So it waited. Now you’ve finally got leave booked, and you’re trying to figure out: can this actually get sorted in the time you have?
We work with families in exactly this situation every month — NRIs coming back with a tight window and a parent who’s put off surgery for far too long. Here’s how we make the timeline actually work.
Senior Joint Replacement Surgeon | MCh Orth (UK)
☑ Precision Robotic Surgery System (0.1mm accuracy)
Most people abroad assume Indian hospitals mean longer stays and more uncertainty than back home. In our experience, it’s usually the opposite.
Patients are typically up and walking within 3 hours of robotic knee surgery.
Most are discharged in 2–3 days, not the week some families brace themselves for.
6,000+ robotic knee replacements performed since introducing robotic arthroplasty to the region in 2019.
Over 25,000 total joint replacements performed across Dr. Aggarwal’s career.
Dr. Shubhang Aggarwal trains other surgeons on this exact robotic system as faculty at the Smith & Nephew Academy in Singapore.
None of that matters much on its own. What matters is whether your parent can walk comfortably, sit cross-legged again, and not wince getting out of a car — and whether you can get back to your job in Toronto or Houston without using up all your annual leave doing it.
Please send us the following details on WhatsApp so our medical team can review your case and arrange a video consultation with Dr. Shubhang Aggarwal.
Recent X-rays — a phone photo of the film or a scan is fine, sent on WhatsApp

Your actual travel dates
"Hi, I’m calling from [Toronto / London / Sydney / etc.] about my parent’s knee"
Chat on WhatsApp +91 98142 09405Start with a video call, not a flight booking. Send us your parent’s X-rays over WhatsApp before you do anything else. We’ll review them and get on a video call so you know — before you’ve spent a rupee on tickets — whether surgery is even needed, what kind, and how long it realistically takes.
Be honest with us about your dates. Tell us your actual return flight date upfront. We’ll tell you straight if it’s workable or too tight — we’d rather adjust the plan now than have you stuck deciding between an unsafe early flight and an extended stay you didn’t budget for.
If your dates are tight, tell us that too. If you’ve already got an appointment booked with us and your travel window is short, we can often arrange the pre-operative date within 2–4 days as a special case. This isn’t the default for every patient, but for families flying in from abroad with limited leave, it’s something we actively plan around — so ask us directly when you book.
One person, one WhatsApp thread. You shouldn’t be juggling three different hospital numbers across a 10.5-hour time difference. You get one point of contact for scheduling, paperwork, and updates — including updates sent to you directly even if you’ve flown back and a parent or sibling is staying on locally.
Recovery is built with flying in mind. Our ERAS protocol (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) is designed to get patients mobile fast — which also happens to line up well with getting medically cleared for the flight home. We’ll tell you the realistic window for short-haul versus long-haul travel based on your parent’s specific case, not a generic rule of thumb.
Figuring out the actual journey from the airport can be more stressful than the surgery itself when you’re coordinating it from another time zone. Here’s what’s available:
Both are within easy reach of Jalandhar, and we can organise pickup directly from either airport — just share your flight details in advance and we’ll have transport arranged for your arrival.
Jalandhar has growing flight connectivity, including direct service via Bombay (Mumbai) on certain routes — worth checking if a direct option works for your dates, as it cuts out the road transfer entirely.
If Delhi is your most convenient or cheapest international connection, that’s fine too — we can arrange a taxi to pick you up directly from Delhi airport and bring you straight to the hospital.
For a single knee replacement, this is roughly what families are working with:
Consultation and pre-op workup
Surgery day
Hospital stay (2–3 days post-op)
Generally cleared for short-haul domestic flights
Generally cleared for long-haul international flights
If both knees need doing, bilateral robotic replacement in a single sitting is something we do regularly — and for families with limited leave, it’s often genuinely the more sensible option than two separate trips. We’ll tell you honestly if your parent isn’t a good candidate for it; we don’t push it on everyone.
Usually yes for single-knee cases, if you’ve got 3+ weeks. It gets tighter with bilateral surgery or older patients with other health conditions. We’ll give you a real answer on the video call, not a sales pitch.
Yes. We’ll loop in whichever family member is staying in Jalandhar, and keep you posted by video call and WhatsApp through surgery and recovery, wherever you are.
No — same pricing as local patients. We’ll send you a full cost breakdown (surgery, implant, hospital stay, physio) before you book flights, so there’s no surprise bill mid-trip.
We can point you toward accommodation suited to a recovering patient and talk through home-care options for after discharge, especially useful if the rest of the family is scattered across cities or countries.
Very. Most people picture something out of a sci-fi film. In reality, the robot is a precision tool the surgeon controls throughout — it doesn’t operate independently. We’re happy to walk your parent through exactly what happens on the video call so they’re not walking into surgery anxious about the wrong thing.
X-rays over WhatsApp, a video call, and an honest answer on timing — that’s the first step, and it costs you nothing but ten minutes.
